Johnny Green was born in 1974 in Leicester, England. After studying photography between 1998 and 2000, he worked from 2000 until 2010 as a photographer for the British news agency, the Press Association, with his work appearing daily in newspapers and magazines around the world from The Observer and The Sunday Times to The New York Post and South Africa's The Independent on Saturday. He has also exhibited in both solo and group shows in London over the past fifteen years, as well as a solo exhibition in Bogota, Colombia in 2012 and a group show in Taiwan in 2014. Green's first two major bodies of work, Those eyes are enough to take this heart of mine and God knows how I adore life, were previewed at the Frontline Club in west London in December 2007 and at Red Dot Art Fair in central London in October 2008 respectively. In November 2009, he exhibited four pieces in a group show, Viva La Revolucion, held at The Vibe Bar, Truman Brewery in east London. From December 2010 through to January 2011, Green opened J. Green & Son, his first Pop-up Gallery and Studio, exhibiting a variety of new and old work under the title It has often been my dream in Bloomsbury, central London. Opening and closing parties were held along with two gigs, a workshop for a local school, as well as raising money for the charity Card Aid. It has often been my dream was later revisited to include new work from the project Give Me More as well as other bits and pieces from the archives and the resulting exhibition opened for six weeks on February 2, 2012, at Trementina Artes in Bogota, Colombia, along with the unveiling of a new six minute piece entitled Heart & Soul, plus screenings of Those eyes are enough to take this heart of mine and God knows how I adore life. In July and August of 2012, Green won the open and overall category prizes in Lauderdale House's annual photographic competition, which resulted in a solo show held there in Highgate, north London, between May 1-12, 2013. A new project, Don't You Want to be Free?, consisting of photographs taken during a five-year period between 2008 and 2012, spanning a soundtrack curated especially for the work, was screened and a selection of prints exhibited. In November 2012, he had a series of 20 photographs exploring questions of identity and belonging, which formed part of Tracey Moberly's LABEL special event at Tate Britain in London.
