As the restrictions of Covid set in, my work had to be increasing experienced over digital display. I chose to embrace the idea of experiencing a sculpture as an image. I grew up in or near the water all my life, and sailing has been one of my greatest dedications. The fluid forms in many of my sculptures derive from the wind and water. My work connects to these natural elements and my career as a craftsman. From an early age, I built furniture and anything else I could with the materials at hand. It wasn’t until college that I began to test the boundaries of my abilities. At the University of Pennsylvania, I developed a passion for sculpture and furniture. However, at the time I was not capable of making the art I wanted. After college I returned to my passion for the water with a new purpose of gaining the abilities necessary to create. I attended the International Yacht Restoration School for traditional wooden boats and for the next ten years I honed my skills as a professional boatbuilder, maker and teacher. My background can be seen throughout my art. A high level of craftsmanship coupled with my continued exploration of techniques and materials connects my art to its origins as craft. I treat every aspect as an opportunity to highlight each individual component. From processes derived in boatbuilding to expanding the potential for overlooked materials, my work marks every stage of my evolving practice. Every piece is carefully crafted with the intention to inspire others to discover their own abilities.
