2 of 5 Limited Edition "Salute to the Night" - Limited Edition 2 of 5 Photograph

This work was inspired by the dark night of the soul experience I went through after a very traumatic period in my life when my husband died young and left me with four young daughters. The winged mask represents the face I showed to the world which was ready to fly off at any moment. The sparkles on the dress are tiny glints of hope in a dark place and the hand saluting the darkness is saying goodbye to the night so that morning can come and the world is once more a brighter place where masks don't have to be worn. I hope the viewer will stop a while to consider the story behind this image, giving it their own story as they take in her stance, clothing and mask. I'd like them to feel they cant pass it by without asking a question about it. Who's she waving at? Why's she wearing a mask? I chose this subject matter because its cathartic for me to make manifest my deepest feeling. To put them out there, face them instead of keeping them inside me. So they dont have so much power over me any longer. My dark night of the soul lasted two long years. Then one night I waved it goodbye. Ellen
