About The Artwork

#457 is part of a work series of 52 pieces, that were created during and under the influence of pandemic between 2020 and 2022. It is called 'BLACK LIGHTS or Light At The End Of The Tunnel' and has been gratefully funded by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) to support artists in times of pandemic difficulties. The shown passepartout and framing is the recommended suggestion for the presentation of the piece, but is not part of the delivered picture, though a white border is of course included. Not suspecting that the problems from the pandemic could be surpassed in the immediate aftermath by possibly even more terrible events in the world, this series remains more present and current than ever believed. After all, it deals with creating a visual realization of the idea that says there is always a glimmer of hope. The reduction to the light itself, or to the luminous body itself, with massive neglect of all the oppressive obscurities around us, is symbolic of this human way of thinking and is intended to represent it in a way that is both drastic and aesthetic.

SG Koezle and Willy Oster, a photographer and a painter, form the artist duo OSTER+KOEZLE since 1999. Since then their works are always about the topics of space and thus architecture, manifested in seven work series, all of which continue to this day. Their works are characterized by digitally altered photographs of rooms and achitectural elements, that make it nearly impossible to match the seen with the known and the viewer's experience.
