About The Artwork

This piece has been created in 2021 to showcase the architectural heritage of the Bauhaus in the West of Germany. It (and a couple of it's 'companions') expand our 'bauhaus suite', which started with motifs taken in Jena and Weimar, the birthplaces of the (still going strong) Bauhaus movement, founded by architect Walter Gropius. Egon Eiermann, the creator of the here shown 'Stadthaus' in Krefeld was strongly influenced by the movement's ideas and buildt the new 'Fire extinguisher plant' in Apoldo near Jena in the 30ths, which we have featured in some motifs here too. Eiermann later became famous for his rebuilding of the 'Gedächtniskirche/Memorial Church' in the heart of Berlin after WW2, the German ambassy in Washigton, D.C. and the 'Members' Tower of the Bundestag in Bonn', later called 'Langer Eugen'. The 'rooms' series tries to keep architecture recognizable and at the same time disturbs the viewer's recognition by solid colored panes, hiding part of the rooms and thus always keeping a secret.

SG Koezle and Willy Oster, a photographer and a painter, form the artist duo OSTER+KOEZLE since 1999. Since then their works are always about the topics of space and thus architecture, manifested in seven work series, all of which continue to this day. Their works are characterized by digitally altered photographs of rooms and achitectural elements, that make it nearly impossible to match the seen with the known and the viewer's experience.
