ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Fine Art Limited Edition Print Printed on archival Fine Art Paper Accompanied by a hand-signed certificate of authenticity This limited edition run of ‘Studio studies’ was developed as case studies for ‘Perspective Assembly’, these accessibly priced prints provide a behind the scenes glance at the development of the ‘Perspective Assembly’ fine art series. All available sizes: SMALL: 11” x 15” inch (edition of 100) MEDIUM: 16” x 20” Inch (edition of 100) LARGE: 18” x 24” inch (edition of 50) Thesis behind the Series - Anna Church manipulates ‘Planes of view’ in this series by creating unique compositions using a refined group of props and materials. Viewed together, the spectator is challenged to consider notions about the multifaceted nature of connectivity. In their original form these decommissioned mechanical molds could have been easy to overlook. They are now given a second life by being assembled into sculptural compositions by Church. Together the whole composition becomes greater than the sum of its distinct and separate parts. With connectivity as her theme, Perspective Assembly also highlights the repurposing of old materials and focuses on sustainability and unity. Church investigates and emphasizes our unlimited ability to seek and see new connections and outcomes, in ever evolving ways. In an era where headlines feel heavy, the notion of exploring and developing new narratives is a hopeful message. Each fine art photograph is printed on natural Belgian linen fabric, intended to be stretched and framed like that of an original canvas. This is a Limited Edition series. The moulds were sourced from Smash Selvage, a vintage and curiosity resource of Anna’s, located just outside of Toronto. The moulds originated from Deck Brothers, a Buffalo, NY company that was founded in 1924 (their stamp is visible on some of the parts). The maker of industrial steel products and small appliances utilized these moulds for in-house machinery but the retired items find new life in Church’s hands – with her photographic, sculptural eye. The disused objects were transformed into geometric abstractions and improvisations to develop new art forms. Says the artist; “These moulds seemed destined for a second act as still-life subjects. The way the light refracts and wraps around the industrial objects emphasizes a beauty perhaps not considered in their original, mechanical usage and it inspires me to consider the connection we have to historical utilitarian objects, to find a striking beauty within that.” To accompany the Perspective Assembly series, Anna is releasing a limited edition run of studio studies entitled ‘Assemble’. Developed as case studies for ‘Perspective Assembly’, these accessibly priced prints provide a behind the scenes glance at the development of the ‘Perspective Assembly’ new fine art series.

Anna's artistic practice blends an alchemy of materials and mediums, employing painting, arranging, and sculpting to convey her chosen thesis. Her photographic works flirt with a painterly realism, leaving viewers inquisitive about whether they are witnessing a painting or a photograph. This dynamic interplay captivates observers, encouraging them to linger and provoke closer inspection. Utilizing the photographic medium, Anna captures the expressions of her tactile, three-dimensional creations and assemblages to a two dimensional viewing platform. Distilling her art into magnified photographic forms, yielding limited-edition fine art prints. "Experimenting with diverse materials allows me to convey the thesis I wish to explore. It enables me to develop new concepts without confining my ideas to a singular style. I enjoy creatively challenging myself and pushing boundaries with each new collection, and using materials beyond their original intended purpose. Through my experimentation process of painting, arranging, sculpting, failing and failing better approach I reach a desired outcome”. Having a physical connection to the materials is crucial for Anna. She values the tactile experience of sculpting, finding that it offers resistance and presents obstacles that help foster her creativity within the limitations and handling her chosen materials. "Everything I create is impermanent, much like a photograph captures a moment in time. I relish the building and witnessing the work unfold into something other during my process. Nothing is meticulously planned in advance; I begin, and my work reflects the ever-changing reality of my immediate materials, environment and thoughts. I deliberately allow structures to almost unconsciously form, merge, and compose themselves into their eventual becoming." She finds inspiration in creating artworks that offer immediate visual enjoyment but also deepen in meaning upon ongoing introspection. Her pieces possess a surrealist approach, and maintain an ease that makes them adaptable for various decor styles and environments. "It's gratifying to know that my artwork resides in and is cherished in beautiful homes, public spaces and hotels worldwide. In an age of sensory inundation, the visuals that surround you should bring joy, create fulfilling vistas in your environment, materialize aesthetic self-expression, and nurture your visual well-being.
