About The Artwork

How do you take a picture that isn’t “of” anything? In other words, how do you minimize the presence of the subject matter so the viewer more readily absorbs the impact of the object’s energy? That is, the more cultural narrative implicit in a photo, the less you really see the object you are looking at, and the less opportunity you have to think about it or the act of looking. It’s not a physics problem, but there is a paradox in this singularity. By denying a thing’s function and therefore the cultural artifice around it, the viewer is more aware of one’s own role in creating meaning.
