ABOUT THE ARTWORK

For all of my abstract seascapes: Beautiful colors were the reward for rising early. I created this abstract seascape using a long exposure combined with intentional camera movement to emphasize the softness of the sky, clouds, and water off of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. My hope is that this image allows the viewer a moment of quiet contemplation, imagining being warmed by the rising sun hearing only shore birds and lapping waves. This image is available in the following limited-edition sizes: (20) 48 x 32" (46 x 30" + 2" border) (40) 36 x 24" (34 x 22" + 2" border) (90) 24 x 16" (22 x 14" + 2" border) The photo is printed with a 2" border. If you prefer not to have a border, please let me know and I will remove it so the image size will be enlarged to the size of the base dimensions. The photo will be signed and numbered ON THE BACK with archival ink and you will receive a certificate of authenticity. Prices may increase as editions sell. Printed on archival grade, acid-free, 100% matte cotton rag paper (330 gsm, 17 mil) unmatted and unframed. It will ship in a rigid tube. When the above limited editions sell out, the image will no longer be printed and sold as such. The artist reserves the right to use this image for commercial purposes.

I make photos and create montages that capture beauty and evoke emotion, both of the natural world and of human-made structures and objects. At age 12, my dad gave me a vintage Argus C3 rangefinder camera. Around the same time I became interested in astronomy and saved my babysitting money to buy a used Celestron 6” Newtonian reflector telescope. My dad built me a little observatory on our back hill and darkroom space in the basement. I saved more money and filled it with used darkroom equipment, developing gelatin silver prints from my 35mm film. By night I was regularly gazing through time and space, acutely aware of the vastness of the universe and Earth’s insignificance within that space. But by day I was out with my camera marveling at nature and capturing the beauty of our little miracle planet. Today my childhood passions merge when I use my images of the night sky as a backdrop to elicit contemplation of our place in the universe. I still feel our planet is precious and continue to capture the beauty of it, but I cannot ignore the impact humans have on it due to population growth as well as political and economic factors. While do I capture the results of that impact, I also see beauty in our structures and objects.
