ABOUT THE ARTWORK
From my Ilha das Flores series, exploring the natural and manmade beauty of my grandmother's island of Flores, the westernmost island of the Azores archipelago. This the door to a long abandoned home right next to the house where my grandma, and her 13 siblings, were born and raised. Months after taking this photo, showing my grandmother photographs from our trip, she stopped on this one and said, "That's Adelaide's home!" This is the home of her close friend, Adelaide, and the orange trim (originally yellow) was immediately recognizable to her, despite being seventy years later. Winner of Best in Show at the 2014 Emerald Art Gallery Juried Photography Exhibit.
