l e e s u n m i n . c o m ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sun-Min LEE is a Korean gayageum player, photographer, and interdisciplinary artist whose practice explores the convergence of music and photography. Her work integrates sound, image, and time into a single artistic experience, expanding the boundaries of traditional media. She began developing her artistic practice in Berlin in 2015 and has been based in Hamburg, Germany since 2021. Alongside her artistic work, she teaches at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre, where she engages with contemporary approaches to traditional music and performance. Working as a multidisciplinary artist, she moves fluidly between performance, photography, and sound-based practices. Since 2019, her photographic works have incorporated NFT-based sound elements that allow viewers to access improvised gayageum performances through smartphone interaction. This integration introduces a time-based auditory layer to the still image, transforming photography into a multisensory encounter. In 2023, Lee Sunmin was recognized as a traditional music performer whose work bridges minimalism and neoclassical aesthetics. Her work was introduced and critically reviewed by the National Gugak Center in Korea, positioning her practice within contemporary discourse on traditional music and interdisciplinary art.
