About The Artwork

(Binnacle) Orbis Terrarum The work is the result of an evaluation of the landscape as an element that forms an intrinsic part of a vision that interprets reality through the lens of various modes and atmospheres that define a Specific light, beyond a simple formal record. It is the light and the atmosphere born of a vital force that happens in tonal values that surround the landscape of the páramo (ecosystem typical of Colombia), I choose this ecosystem because it allows a demanding photographic approach that requires a process of observation; but also demand a deep meditation on the natural elements that inevitably exist. It generates a vestige and Visceral photographic act in the most purist way and on the other hand it is an eventual testimony of the imminent presence of man. You can see the elements left by man for his mining interventions in the past and with which a drastic change in the landscape of the páramo begins. To start this, I went to the moor, where I took the photographs, where before it was a mine for the extraction of construction materials. The landscape approaches as a transmitter of Peace, because there are localized lagoons that were sacred to the indigenous peoples before the arrival of the European conquerors; but in some places it was a strategic corridor for the guerrilla movements of the 20th century and today, in Colombia, a peace process is finally underway. The process derives in some photographs that propose a monochromatic or color format, denoting the classic and the timeless. Therefore, the process itself is a proposal that undertakes aspects of registration but that in the final edition of the photographic material goes beyond a simple epistolary record. Are printed on Luster paper with MDF altarpiece wood.
