Manfred Moncken, born in Bamberg/Bavaria, lives in Dresden and studied sculpture at the Dresden University of Fine Arts with Professors Eberhard Bosslet and Ursula Sax. During his studies he already was concerned with the possibilities of photographic techniques. For several years he has been working mainly with photographs. The thematic focus is the human body and the body in relation to landscape and nature. Transience, metamorphosis, pain, wounds, isolation, transcendence and temporality are crucial artistic themes. Another focus is landscape photography. In the series "Beyond the Flesh" an attempt is made to relate the human body to an apparently alien and forbidding nature. There should be room for interpretation for the viewer. Is there a transcendental level? Is the feeling of isolation and alienation taking hold? Or do you feel comfort or connection? Beyond the flesh, existential questions arise. In other series or single images, the body is brought out of the darkness with the weakest possible lighting. The flicker of a bodily presence, the momentary appearance of our existence in space and time.
