NOTE - THIS IS 5/15 LIMITED EDITION. Look closely at the photographs offered here in the Skier Series by Hooey (Susan) Wilks. The skiers are miniature antique toy skiers from the 1930's and 40's photographed high in the mountains at premier ski resorts. These tiny skiers draw you in, evoke a nostalgic feeling for the dawn of skiing but are presented in a vibrant, modern, relevant context. This work showcases the beauty of mountain landscapes with a wink of whimsy designed to draw the viewer in and surprise and delight. I love working at the intersection of time and nature, creating movement where none exists and forcing the viewer to question what is real? This particular group of skiers is out touring the back country under a blue bird sky in the heart of ski country away from the busy ski resorts. "Art of the Backcountry" is #5 of a Limited Edition of 15. Printed on Epson Professional Velvet Fine Art Paper - Cotton Rag My work is typically framed with a wide white border. The print you are ordering is 30x40 paper size. The Image is 25x35 with a 2.5" white border. This allows for framing without a mat or the white can be trimmed down to 1 inch on each side and float mounted. Each print is inspected and hand signed by the artist.

I have been a creator all my life in a multitude of mediums including oil, fiber, and photography. Currently I am working in photography and contemporary mix media. I love working at the intersection of time and nature and forcing the viewer to question what is real. I create movement where none exists in both figurative and non-figurative work. There is a story to be told and an unfolding of the art as the viewer experiences what they are seeing. Specific to the Skier Series, close to two decades ago, I bought my husband the first two antique toy skiers in what has now become an extensive collection of over 150 antique toy skiers from the dawn of skiing (1930's-40's) that I have used as the basis for the Skier Series. The work is shot at ski resorts, high in the mountains. I am constantly exploring the landscape, examining the environment and the details that mimic what I am feeling on that day, but on a smaller scale. I use framing, perspective and depth of field to bring the toys to life and celebrate the beauty of the landscape. In addition to the photo series, I create contemporary mixed media that plays well in both ski homes as well as anyone looking for transitional art. At a time when we all could use a little more joy in our lives, I am so happy to be sharing these images and hope they bring you and your home the same joy they bring me. _________________ My birth name is Susan, but everyone calls me Hooey.
