This is a unique, limited edition of one, black and white 2:1 photograph of Pike O' Stickle in the Lake District National Park, UK. The image was taken on a cold January day whilst hiking up to Bowfell. It was a pleasant day for hiking and a great day for black and white photography. Patchy clouds were casting some interesting shadows across the landscape. As I took this image, the shadow of one large cloud engulfed most of the valley and made it's way across the Langdale Pikes to Pike O' Stickle. There was also some white low clouds coming off the fell in the background which contrasted beautifully with the darkness of the shadows. Whilst there was no direct inspiration from other artists for this particular image, most of my best work has been inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci's immortal words: "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication", and this low-key black and white chiaroscuro style certainly simplifies the image by removing any unwanted distractions in the foreground and help focus the viewers attention on the subject, resulting in a more elegant, modern, and contemporary image. I choose to print my images on aluminium dibond because they make for a more elegant and modern print that is very robust and resistant to UV light (so it will not fade) and the matte black finish provides a beautiful texture to the print. This one of a kind artwork will be printed to order by WhiteWall and may take up to 14 days to arrive at my studio where I will then check the print for defects, sign the rear, add the certificate of authenticity, and re-package to be shipped to the buyer.

I am a self-taught freelance photographer with 20+ experience in many genres, including landscapes, portraiture, fine art nude, weddings, sport, wildlife and architecture & real estate. Up until the Covid pandemic I specialised in portraiture and art nude studio photography, but when lockdowns were lifted in the UK, I found myself wanting to get up to the Lake District National Park as often as possible and make the most of our freedom whilst it lasted. I quickly became addicted to landscape photography and the challenges it posed. From having full control of studio lighting, to having to work with what nature was providing was a massive challenge indeed. As a fine art nude photographer, I adopted a low-key, high contrast black and white chiaroscuro style, and I wanted to stick to this style if possible. I do love colour images, but sometimes the colours can distract from the beauty of the light and the detail it reveals. I found that by underexposing the shadows and exposing for the highlights, I was also able to “black out” any unwanted foreground distractions from the image, leaving a much simpler, cleaner, elegant image where the viewers attention is focused on one thing and one thing only- the light As Leonardo Da Vinci said: “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”
