Richard Turcotte, also known as TURCOT, lives and works in St-Augustin, a suburb of Quebec City. He started drawing at a very young age and even if his professional career was not really in the artistic field, his personal and professional experience has always brought him back to some type of artistic exploration. . Keen on science and a convinced Darwinist, he upholds that certain notions of the Darwin’s theory of evolution resemble the modus operandi of the automatist/expressionist abstract creators: spontaneous action without a precise plan, a milieu where an artist feels free to improvise. Because he enjoys developing and deepening his knowledge of new techniques and technology, he is captivated by digital art and by sound art. Spontaneity nourishes his creativity, and no matter what, the resulting work must surprise or better still astonish him. He must be instinctively willing to cross the fine line which separates the visible from the invisible, the conscious from the unconscious. Nothing must be planned ahead of time. he must always create chaos, destabilization, and a never ending search for a new level of equilibrium.
