Incandescent – The Art of Peter Hyatt Peter Hyatt’s ‘Incandescent’ explores the city as dark carnival. A series of high-voltage images comprising points of light and colour are transformative as a series of dot to dots, vivid mosaics and hyper-real, window-to-the-world. Hyatt’s extensive experience as an architectural photographer helps explore the juxtaposition of identity in an over-stimulated, overwhelming urban world. Views of urban anxiety have a visceral, voyeuristic quality as his graphic style converts beige into the psychedelic. His images have an uneasy, festive quality of saturated colour at odds with an intrinsic isolation and tension. Unlike the subdued, often bleak, urban realism portrayed by many post-war modernist artists, ‘Incandescent’ pulses with colour to capture stillness and motion.
