Murat Ozkasim was born in 1962 in Istanbul, Turkey. Since leaving Turkey in the early 1980s he has travelled widely; living and working as a photographer, street performer and entrepreneur (to name but a few of his many guises), in Europe the Far East and North America. His practice draws from the visual impact of the new megalopolis while simultaneously assigning an interest to the history of art and the ways in which abstract art in particular, relates to the urban environment; reflecting his interest in those ideas and signs that mark out the contemporary passage to the multicultural and urbanized global society. He has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad and his photographs have appeared in and on the covers of magazines and books internationally.
