Archival pigment print of handprinted 120mm colour film in London | 2020 Burdon’s series of color and black and white film photographs, Bodies in Rust, depicts a constructed fantasy world full of blurred motion, sculptural bodies, and mythic poses that create optical illusions meant to destabilize, distort, and challenge our perceptions. Working in collaboration with two dancers from Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London, Max Cookward and Magnus Westwell, Burdon captures their continuous movement through a combination of fast and slow shutter speeds to blur the lines between the two as their bodies intimately combine and absorb into each other.

Katie Burdon is a photographer currently based in London, hailing from Cornwall. Interested in exploring the human body in relation to the natural form, a strong focus on the female gaze is maintained throughout her work. Through a juxtaposition of colour and storytelling with surreal undertones, she aims to bring curiosity and observance to her vision. She is involved in all aspects of the image making process, from concept, art direction, casting and editing, a one-woman force.
