About The Artwork

Bona' is a good-natured farewell greeting used between friends. It is the abbreviation, and dialect form, of good luck, good fortune, good everything. The "Bona Ugo!", on the other hand, has a different meaning. It is said almost out of resignation when our interlocutor does not understand what, in our opinion, seems obvious, or it is used as an invitation to a person to wake up from his mental torpor. Why the name Ugo is used in this expression, there is no certainty. Although Tuscany and Florence have an ancient and famous Ug0, in Via del Proconsolo. "Bona!" he inspiration for this work came from reflecting on the number of tourists who flock to the Louvre to see Leonardo's Mona Lisa. Here, visitors throng with the intention of photographing the work, which in the age of mass tourism is increasingly fascinating and remains elusive. Faced with the obsessive consumption of art, which seems to be the fatal destiny of cities of art, I have ironically juxtaposed the silhouette of the faceless Mona Lisa, almost as if she wanted to remove herself, and on the other side the representation of what from her point of view appears in front of her every day. The irony also stems from the fact that the one I used is a template that is used to insert the faces of tourists and be photographed in the guise of the painting, after all, the old Florentine saying "bona ugo" : do not try to steal my secret, my mystery will always continue to elude you because that is how true art is.

I am a fine art photographer, through my photographic series I combine my fantasy world with the reality of the world I observe, taking inspiration from the fascination for philosophical and literary thought. My research is characterized by the creation of images with rarefied atmospheres, which refer to a parallel dimension, investigating the themes of identity, fantasy, dream and memory. maintaining an open dialogue with something that is beyond the visible, an off-screen, which is the real focal point of my photographs. Themes of identity, dreams and memory are explored in my photography without leaving out the timeliness of our time. Some of my works have become part of the permanent collections such as the Macn, museum of contemporary and twentieth century art, Monsummano Terme, Italia, and foundations such as Fondo Malerba for photography. I exhibited in several exhibitions both in Italy and abroad and won awards as the Celeste Prize 2009, exhhibition prize ARTELAGUNA, the prize ITS eight talent support for Pitti Immagine, I had a special jury mention at the Talent prize of 2008 and received the silver GONFALONE of the Tuscany Region, as well as being a finalist in several other awards. I use mainly natural light and film based photography, although more recently i also operate with artificial lighting and digital post-production.
