About The Artwork

I love this beautiful Ferris Wheel which is local to me in Brighton, South of England. It sits right by the sea and next to the Palace Pier. I wanted to create an image of this lovely structure that captured the fun and the playfulness of a traditional fun fair. So I mixed my original photograph with other images I had taken of lollipops, rock and sweets which are sold on the pier. I really liked the traditional old fashioned colourful lollipop which I placed as a layer next to the very modern 45 metre high wheel. A bit of historical information: The Brighton Wheel was manufactured in Germany and was transported to South Africa in 2010, where it served as a tourist attraction during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. It was then shipped to England and opened to the public in 2011. The Big Wheel stayed at Brighton's Madeira Drive for 5 years, right next to the Palace Pier which was built in 1899.
