Large size giclée print on beautiful matt Hahnemuhle Fine Art Photo Rag paper depicting a Calathea in a stoneware pot. A painterly photograph of a Calathea. In Brazil, Calathea plants are sometimes called "prayer plants" and are believed to bring good energy and positive vibes to a home. They are also thought to be a symbol of new beginnings and spiritual growth. In some African cultures, Calathea plants are used in traditional medicine to treat various ailments, including fever, headaches, and gastrointestinal issues. They are also believed to have protective properties and are used in rituals to ward off evil spirits. In Hinduism, Calathea plants are associated with the goddess of wealth and prosperity, Lakshmi. They are often used in prayers and rituals to attract good fortune and financial success. In feng shui, Calathea plants are considered to be a symbol of growth and vitality. They are believed to bring positive energy to a space and are often placed in the eastern or southeastern part of a room to enhance prosperity. Overall, Calathea plants are often associated with growth, prosperity, and positive energy across various cultures and belief systems. Their lush and colorful foliage can also represent beauty and abundance. In my photographic process, I utilize semi-transparent layers to create a dreamlike and painterly aesthetic when capturing the beauty of the botanical specimen. The diffusion of light through the layers softens and blurs the edges of the subject, evoking the style of traditional paintings. This technique is achieved entirely in-camera, without any post-production manipulation. *Please note that prints can be made different sizes

As a documentary portrait photographer, I am often confronted with the complex and often unjust aspects of our society. While capturing impressive stories and tackling impactful subjects, I felt the desire to find an expression of my creativity that is somewhat lighter. That's why I decided to expand my focus and embrace the enchanting beauty of nature by photographing floral and botanical specimens, draped in semi-translucent layers that imbue a dreamlike, painterly quality. The light that falls through the windows of my daylight studio enhances this atmosphere even more and emphasizes the unique beauty of these marvelous subjects. Photographing botanical specimens allows me to explore a different side of my creativity, one that is more focused on capturing the unique shapes, textures, and colors of the natural world. It also provides a refreshing change of pace from the often heavy and emotionally taxing subject matter of my documentary portrait work. Additionally, through my floral photography, I am able to create images that convey a sense of tranquility and wonder. I hope that these images inspire viewers to appreciate the beauty of the natural world and to consider the importance of preserving it for future generations. I am excited to present this new body of work to the world in limited editions for the very first time. Have a wonderful day!
