In college, I majored in photography. After much trial and error, I realized that I would be more effective as an artist with a camera, and it made sense that I should learn more about fine art. I enrolled in a fine art program to study drawing and water paint mediums. It was there I learned that before I could effectively express my imagination on canvas or paper, I had to first master the technique. The art of imagination cannot be taught—it is a love affair and a life’s journey for those of us who have to make art. Throughout my journey, I have explored many genres of art with camera and paintbrush, from photographing in the streets to landscapes and still life work with 8x10 cameras. I made the transition from large and medium format cameras to digital photography in 2004. Photography is a progressive technology, and digital photography has thrown the doors wide open. There are no limits to photographic expression. So, my love affair with imagination, light, color, and fine art print continues. After 35 years as an artistI feel comfortable working in the genres of art in which I want to communicate—whether that is surrealism, abstract expressionism, or realism of a quiet still life that manifests in an inner light. My new portfolios are a relationship of chaos coming into conceptual form from which a dance of elements take place.
