About The Artwork

Then, from the impressions of the first contact with the clay and practicing portrait photography as an exercise in contemplating subjectivities, beginning the search for common ground between working with clay and the photographic exercise. In the visual register with mud a noise is added that destabilizes the composition in my sense; The wet and soft volume on the face is freed from facial references and this absence of detail makes more abstract aspects appear. In some shots, hands and eyes are present, the rest of the facial references are replaced by ephemeral forms made by a subject that is built destroying his own representation.

In the relationship between the forms there is a narrative of proximity, of contact, of encounter, and it is probable that this narrative is not only composed of concepts but fundamentally of sensations. In Oscar Barbery's work, sculpture is the verb, it is the action and it is the subject, its formal constitution is the result of representations of the self-determined movement of matter: undefined bodies that attract, compose and project themselves. The relationship between them suggests a new nature or an amplified nature. A Latin American artist who has lived in Europe for more than 10 years, he works mainly with clay and its ceramic processes. His work has been acquired by museums such as the MAC and the Museo Nacional de Arte de Bolivia.
