ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This image from the Clouds Series under the title Cloud Structure has won the 3d place at the FIX Photo Award contest 2018, London in the category "Essence" and is included in the festival group exhibition. Cloudscapes Series Everything in the sky is relative - whether it is close or a long shot of a cloud, sky is enormous. Skies offer the same fabulous scapes as the earth, only matter is not so dense. You see the same majestic views, but the point is to develop this sensitivity to detail in the sky. My photographs try to look and find such a fragment in the vast clouds from below, as if I am looking from above and to catch that moment, in which directions blur. In the process, I dissociate from the material sensation of rocks, soil, etc. and after looking at a photo of clouds for a while, it seems to me I gain a bird’s point of view or dare say, the angels’ point of view. My goal is to not simply imprint a beautiful cloud or colour, but to feel that I observe them as a landscape. If landscapes are created to take peoples’ breath away, then may be the heavenly scenes are breathtaking for the angels. It is a bold endeavour to peer through them, a different approach to landscape photography. To shoot a landscape, is always in favour of the spectators, so they can see the beauty of a place they have not visited. Many photographers travel to take pictures of the incomparable Island, Brasil, Sahara… The everchanging clouds give us exceptional imagery every day, even without moving from our places. Taking pictures of the sky is an attempt to steal from this heavenly beauty. If you see a photograph that arouses hallelujah to your heart, then this is a good photograph. Vladimir Mihaylov-Zenkevich was born and lives in Sofia, Bulgaria. After many years of contributing to the visual arts, he has decided to show his work and searching in art photography. Vladimir’s extensive portfolio in feature films, documentaries, television series, commercials and music videos is complemented with the diversity of long exposure photographs, shots of starry nights and the Milky way, dramatic clouds, landscapes, sea shores, still life, portraits of various Bulgarian actors, directors, artists... His professional biography has started with shooting on film and now is enriched with the digital medium. Working with the moving images, Vladimir takes the opportunity to reveal his passion and express his heart and soul in art photography. Along with his interpretations of the abstract, he shows images of the Black Sea shore with its solitary rocks and waters in black and white; night landscapes with stars and mysterious clouds; many travel findings through various countries and cities around the world. The tender touch of his eye reveals Amsterdam, Manhattan, Vienna, Rio, Florence, Merzouga, etc. in a unique way, stealing romantic aspects of their atmosphere for the audience's pleasure and delight. These photographs invite us to a world of contemplative walks, peaceful neighbourhoods, personal living spaces, places for insight and thoughtfulness. Vladimir's approach to the beauty of every site and corner, sometimes hidden in the fast pace of life, gives a chance for the spectator to touch and experience the same emotion as the photographer's. The world of Vladimir Zenkevich's photographs is reserved for those who crave for quietness and fineness, for serenity and a way to reach their inner selves.
