About The Artwork

Entangled In Sunlight Branches entangled Birds swallowed in sunlight Even the leaves do not move Fragrance of Summer A warm day early in the summer, it is windless. The dense foliage filters the sunlight. Birds sing, but are invisible in the golden-green light. 'Entangled In Sunlight' is a new digital artwork in my collection 'The Narrow Path'. For this artwork, I used one of my own impressionist photographs and a fragment of an abstract expressionist painting by the Canadian abstract expressionist painter Jules D. This is a digital artwork, printed with high-quality ink on museum-quality, acid-free cotton/rag paper (Hahnemühle Photo Rag® Ultra Smooth 305 g/sqm). The work comes in a limited edition of 10, signed and with a certificate of authenticity. For this work, I start with a photograph made by myself, which I edit in multiple process runs and in several layers by color manipulation and adding and editing multiple digital photographic effects, until a surrealistic atmosphere is created that touches me. The photograph I begin with has an impressionistic, abstract or abstract realist style, which is the basis for all my work.

With my artworks, I hope to tease and stimulate more than just your sight. I want you to sense what I sensed when I made the artwork; the light, the temperature, the atmosphere... sometimes even the scent of a damp autumn forest and the cold of the whirling salty breath of a storm on the beach of the North Sea. In this way I ask you to reflect for a moment on the nature around you, on the beautiful feeling that nature can evoke, on what we will lose if we continue on the path of 'never enough'. My main inspiration is the vulnerability of nature. I see changes in nature. I see the effects of urbanization, the pressure of pollution and of the changes in the climate. I hope to make people aware of that vulnerability by sharing what I feel when I look around me. My work is often described by others as abstract, minimalistic and impressionistic. My style is distinct and pure, and is characterized by soft colors, soft focus and the effects created by how I move my camera during making the photo. I like experimenting and exploring the limits of what the camera can handle. I myself often describe my style as abstract realistic and impressionistic. I mostly work in nature where I immerse myself in the shapes, colors, sounds and stillness of the natural surroundings. My work can be described as the most pure form of fine art photography, since I choose to create the abstract and impressionist effects as seen in my photographs, using only the basic camera settings. Photo software is used only to remove dust or to adjust brightness, contrast and cropping to improve my compositions. I don't manipulate my photos and I don't use digital editing tools or filters. The titles of my photos are an important element of the entire work of art. In addition, I often write a short poem or a few lines of prose to a photo. Born in 1959 in the city of Gouda in The Netherlands, I now live with my wife and dog in a small farmhouse in the Danish Thy region in North West Jutland. In the summer of 2018 my wife and I moved from a larger city in The Netherlands to a small hamlet in the Thy region. We fell in love with this region about ten years ago... We live a simple, minimalistic life, as self sufficient and sustainable as possible, and we love it... My photography has been sold and exhibited in various countries all over the world.
