I took this photo with a Canon 5DS R during my stay in Ortigia, a little island close to Syracuse in Sicily.
I used the light as a chisel shooting my body to rivive Goddesses and nymphs from ancient Greece.
I got inspired by the history of the island which is based on the myth of Arethusa.

Arethusa was a nymph and the God Alphaeus, son of Ocean, fell in love with her and he started to spy on her while she was bathing naked. Arethusa, however, ran away from his attentions, escaping to the island of Ortigia, in Syracuse. She asked for help from the goddess Artemis, who turned her into a fountain.
Zeus, driven by the pain of Alphaues, turned him into a river, thus allowing him to travel from the Peloponnese in Greece, towards the entire Ionian sea to join the beloved one.

The photo will be printed on high quality Hanhnemuhle photo rag bright white 310 g acid free and 100% cotton paper.

Beatrice Santangelo is a photographer born under the spring sun of Sicily, Italy in 1990. She is always in love with Art and Fashion since she was a child. She lived in different cities around Italy where she could absorb the aesthetic secrets of an incredible millenary culture. Then she started to travel around the world but her most important stop was in Asia where she fell in love with Yoga. Beatrice through Yoga discovered a deep connection with creativity, spirituality and Mother Earth. She started out as a participant in yoga classes and retreats but soon she naturally felt the need to document holistic retreats, ceremonies and events. For Beatrice her body is her temple and she believes it is a precious and powerful communication tool able of awakening the soul. Her vision about the body is above what surrounds our skin. Photography helps Beatrice in a path of awareness, through self-portraits she explores herself and her spirit using her body as a canvas.
