I took this picture at a home in Bangkok at Sukhumvit 39, that was in 1960s home of Italian writer Tiziano Terzani named the Turtle house. I was there on Easter Sunday 1 April 2018 evening, just a few days before this tropical paradise house with garden and big pond with turtles was demolished to gave way to a boring ugly concrete skyscraper.
I read all the books of Tiziano Terzani in 2005, loved them and never even slightly imagined that I would ever see this house and even less that I would spend an evening there in the company of Khamsing, their gardener of 35 years. It was a magic evening at this tropical oasis with lush vegetation, a pond, birds, peace, oxygen, charged with some very special, powerful and unique energy.… At the same time surrounded by luxury condos that in the end swallowed it.
The garden was alive. Frangipani flowers were falling down from a big tree. The perfume of frangipani flowers took over the air and made us dream. In huge contrast with concrete Bangkok, here green was everywhere, embracing everything in the garden.

It is a photograph, but I also hand painted over it a little bit with acrylic paint in an almost unperceivable way, but it makes the artwork more complex, powerful, original and unique.

160 x 200 cm, digitally altered photograph on textured pvc, hand painted over with acrylic paint, edition of 12, 2018.

The photograph is sold unframed, but can be framed at additional cost.
