And it can be a guide in reimaging our food system, and our diets from the ground up!’ Dan Barber Brix presents itself as a visual re-imagination towards modern agriculture. Inspired by the extensive field studies of award winning, executive chef, Dan Barber in The Third Plate, Jordan captures everyday foods in neo-realistic fashion. Brix depicts objects of nutrition and taste through stylized transformations and interventions. Through photographing ubiquitously available foods, saturating their commonly acknowledged pigments of colour; these objects not only appear visually different but rather each objects essence is placed under question. Ultimately asking the viewer, which is the more natural intervention? While Jordan acknowledges Brix to be a continuous thematic exploration of the seen and unseen, a reoccurring interest of his; Brix is also an expedition into social change. A landscape that is certainly uncharted by Jordan however one that he is keen to explore further. In the same vain as Barber, but using a completely different medium to convey such message, Brix stands to be a catalyst for change for the viewer. Calling what something is or calling what something appears to be is no more authentic than calling Pak Choi or Quality untouched pieces of food. Brix is a support to Barber’s ideals and efforts of changing the way we eat and look at food.
