About The Artwork

pigment print on photorag metallic paper. The image is derived from an oil painting, where a small section is photographed, then processed to reveal the hidden patterns hiding within the picture. I was interested in finding out about the secret lives of objects, aspects of reality that our faulty human perception may have missed, but are there none the less. So this is an occult image, occult as in hidden, rather than in a magik sense. This was inspired by my interest in 'Object orientated Ontology' and 'Panpsychism'

Justin is an artist living in the dystopian remains of the UK. He incorporates both figurative and symbolic patterns into his work. Using a variety of techniques from pencil drawing to digital manipulation, He teases out the hidden patterns within objects around us and explores some of the occult figures that occupy a variety of possible worlds that occasionally intersect with our own. He likes to make things and is fairly restless, so he divides the hours between art, music and writing depending on when inspiration strikes! the disciplines feed into each other, each just a different means of expression or exorcism. Justin has been a Dj, music producer and remixer since the early 1990's and has worked with some fascinating artists over the years, including Bjork, New Order, Noel Gallagher, Justice and Paul Weller. He studied Philosophy at university and has always found a philosophical conundrum as a useful starting point when creating a collection; for example his 2018 collection 'It's Alive' discussed Panpsychism and our connection to the objects around us, while 'Alone', is a study of solitude and isolation both voluntary and enforced. His latest collection 'When the dark is light enough' considers the secret lives of the objects that surround us and how due to our faulty human senses we are often mistaken as to their nature. ' Philosophy often gives my work its conceptual underpinning, but it's the fact that I am self taught as both a musician and artist, that gives me a certain freedom to experiment and grow in unpredictable ways. A dose of chaos is often good for the soul. ' Justin Robertson 2020. Justin lives in London with my wife Sofia and two dogs Monty and Harry. Find out more at- justinrobertson.co.uk/bio
