About The Artwork

Statement: Not one person sees the world in exactly the same way. There are always differences of interpretation but does that necessarily make someone right and another wrong? Description: This artwork is inspired by Franz Kline's abstract expressionist artistic style and Rorschach's inkblots. Tired of being locked up in my apartment during the heavy level 5 lockdown, when restrictions were lifted, I decided to take a drive to Franschoek by way of Caledon. This is a photo of dead trees after a devastating fire and the harsh drought we experienced the year before, Western Cape, South Africa, 2020. Print Material: Fine-Art Archival Giclee Paper | Diasec

I was born and raised in Vanderbijlpark, a small town in the Gauteng Provence of South Africa, in 1969. It's a heavily industrialised area where the sky is pale, grey, or brown. Not knowing what I wanted to do with my life, a friend suggested I further my education in photography. It was then that I found an outlet to the pressing need for expression, without the misunderstood external gesticulations that limit the souls' expression. The purpose behind my work is to share what I have learned, i.e. with every experience, the good and the bad, life loves, teaches, incubates, protects, nurtures, and sets us free to live and prosper if we so choose. At the age of 48, I left my hometown and moved to Cape Town, South Africa, where I currently reside, and the sky is always blue.
