Radiographic study of the sculpture "LA DOLOROSA" by the baroque sculptor Pedro de Mena, 1670.
"La Dolorosa" is a polychrome carving that represents the Virgin Mary in bust in her painful mysteries. It is one of the type created by Mena that had such acceptance in the Spanish baroque. The work gives off elegant sobriety and melancholy, concentrating the expression on the face.
Masterfully carved in pinewood, through the polychrome work, it achieves great naturalism through the different techniques and materials used, such as glass eyes, bone teeth, natural hair eyelashes and tears. Chromatism in clothing refers to immaculistic iconography, being the hyacinth-colored tunic and the blue-blue mantle.
Photograph taken on aluminum plate, in an edition of only two numbered copies, committing me not to make more copies.
READY TO HANG in Metal
Metal stamping. Printed in aluminum Dibond. Elegant and ready to hang, with support that allows the artwork to float on the wall. Intense print colors. Premium quality. Non reflective finish.
