Welsh based artist Michelle Collins (founder of Diva Productions) work is research based exploring contemporary culture in its totality. It is not specifically about politics, gender or identity, it is all these things in its multiplicity in which she strives to identify. Collins' starting point always begins with a current word or phrase that stems out of situations occurring in her life which she then explores fully. Documenting through various media with the intention for it to be displayed and explored further in a participatory installation piece, otherwise known as Diva Productions. Previous works have included "The Upgrades Office", 2007, in which Collins' conceptually sold viewers emotional, physical and material upgrades to their personal lives, of which many visitors found very emotionally moving and life changing. Collins has also produced under Diva productions a series of drawing battles and discos events in which repetitive music is played for various durations for participants to make large collective drawing works in dry media which are also documented. Michelle Collins offers us a place to play, make marks and tell stories through various interactive methodologies exploring social systems to create a "collective" artwork, enabling others to add to an overall social collective archive.
