I am inspired by the still-lifes of the Dutch Masters in the 17th century. For example the use of light by Rembrandt, with his clair obscur handling, gives a delicate focus on the choosen subject. The composition feels like a coincidence, like a coming together and hanging around of the subjects. The colour, texture and form of the tomato's make this happen.

I am raised in the Burgundian south of the Netherlands, studied art history (specialization 17th century Dutch Visual Arts) at the University of Utrecht, where I have build up my imaginary library. Feeling the urge not only wanting to consider art, I started at Statief in Utrecht my photographers education to create art, with a great interest in still lifes. The common thread of my still lifes is stillness. For me, everything comes to life in the tranquility of photography. The natural forms of fruit and vegetables, for example, are photographed as if each object has a personality. My still lifes are actually portraits to me. I choose the compositions carefully, and hope to give a balanced result, creating something extra, such as the depiction of movement or lightness.Time has just stopped, to enjoy the simple beauty of nature even more.
