Late Roman Summer Photograph

Another for Italy fanatics. This is a photograph. But given the style and look, I like to call it 'Photopainting'. Yet, only minimal adjustment has been made to the orginal shot. Undoubtedly, the first things that strike are the saturated and rich contrasting tones: blue, orange, green. These are the actual colours of a mature summer day in central Italy. The blue of the sky is vibrant, rich and quite dark. It's not light as the shy skies of May...It is mature, grown-up, self-confident. It is a September Roman sky. The vegetation has lost its freshness, months of sun and heat burnt the greens, making them warmer, yellower. The buildings, originally ochre and terra di siena, are hit by a low incidental sun: it is the evening. This, in my view, is a snapshot of the atmosphere you'll find at the end of the summer in a city of central Italy. The powerful light, the rich colours, the vibrant sun, the mature and cofident sky....this is a glimpse of my country at its best time. Technically, I photographed randomly the Tiber in early September around 6.30pm. I was bored, so was shooting the water randomly.... till I saw what was beneath the ripples: a landscape that really represented that atmosphere I loved. Then I took a photo of the actual landscape, not the reflection in the water, and realised that it was nothing special. The reflection itself was the real work. Thus, I turned the photo upside down. This is my Late Roman Summer view.
