About The Artwork

Statement: It takes courage to open your heart, knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day. Description: This artwork was inspired while hiking in the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve. There had been a devastating wildfire seven months before, and though there were still remnants of the destruction, the fynbos was starting to thrive again. Fynbos is the Cape Floral Kingdome, home to thousands of plants unique only to South Africa. While fynbos thrives after a fire, ecologists believe that there are vital lessons to be learned from the flames. For example, fynbos plants, such as proteas, need fire to release seeds and reproduce. In the following spring after the fire, the seeds will germinate, mature, and flower again for three to four years. I named this limited edition print 'Let the Sun Shine In' because when the flower discovered its original beauty again, a ray of sunshine filtered through the brush and touched it with its golden light.  Printing Material: Fine-Art Archival Giclee Paper | Diasec

I was born and raised in Vanderbijlpark, a small town in the Gauteng Provence of South Africa, in 1969. It's a heavily industrialised area where the sky is pale, grey, or brown. Not knowing what I wanted to do with my life, a friend suggested I further my education in photography. It was then that I found an outlet to the pressing need for expression, without the misunderstood external gesticulations that limit the souls' expression. The purpose behind my work is to share what I have learned, i.e. with every experience, the good and the bad, life loves, teaches, incubates, protects, nurtures, and sets us free to live and prosper if we so choose. At the age of 48, I left my hometown and moved to Cape Town, South Africa, where I currently reside, and the sky is always blue.
