In ihrer Serie „MARILYN MONROE - Imagine through Desire“ präsentiert Jeanne Szilit exquisite Screenshots der berühmten Diva, die sie in komplexen digitalen Experimenten auf ihre farblichen, emotionalen und bedeutungsimmanenten Ebenen hin untersucht, um deren verborgene Expressivität freizulegen. Das Ergebnis sind mythische Psychogramme einer berühmten schönen Frau, die sich auf ganz spezielle Weise in ihrer eigenen Ikonographie verloren zu haben scheint. Die Diva ist sich des Begehrens sicher, das ihr Image auszulösen imstande ist. Doch ihr Fieber nährt sich auch umgekehrt vom Blick des Betrachters, der in die Projektionen schon eingeplant war. I work with the imaginary archives of our cultural pictorial memory. In exploring the relationships between body, intimate and collective memory in a sort of hyper-attentive perception I merge diverse narratives into polyphonic visions. While seeking to capture the fictions, moods and abysses of an image it is the intense emotional-intellectual intrigue that grips me what finally matters. I think of pictures as opaque and transparent. I think of darknesses that open up, of surfaces eroding. I am interested in ambiguous context, in thresholds and liminality, in crossing lines, shifting from a simulated distance, as if in a mirror. It's an imaginative setup allowing for unconscious memories to unfold. I mainly work with photography and digital transformation processes, but sometimes also with painting, film and various other media. My approach is ultimately timeless, whereas my tools and materials may infinitely change. My artwork is in both private and Museum collections in Europe, China and the US.
