About The Artwork

"Meditations in Frost" is part of my series of photographs, "Contemplating Creatures" where I documented a moment I found an animal in which the animal seemed to be contemplating the cosmos, somehow seeing the edge of existence, suspended in time in the hairline shift between living and dying. This image was taken on my farm at dawn in the first hard frost of the year. The only digital manipulation of the original image is an increase in contrast to amplify the dreamlike quality. This limited edition print is signed and numbered by the artist. It is printed on Hahnmuhle 100% cotton rag paper with archival quality inks. Includes a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist. If you would like the print mounted in acrylic glass or on aluminum, or would like a different size, please contact me. I will create a custom listing with your specifications. Price will change accordingly.

I am a storyteller that is always looking for great characters with amazing stories. I am drawn particularly to the natural world and the uneasy balance between humans and animals. I have used a variety of mediums to explore these characters and stories which means I am regularly shifting between the literal and the figurative in both writing and visual arts. My art and photography are about light and environment and the people and animals trying to make their way in that environment. I spend a lot of time around children and seek to capture the fantasy children see in the everyday. I love to hear people's stories and points of view and I try to let what I hear drive my lens when I photograph people. My drawings and paintings are particularly focused on animals and their meaning and relationships to humans.
