ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This latest artistic expression is a combination of photography and glass and is called ‘The Melting Pot of Glass and Colour’. He takes photos from either his own glass sculptures or from other (mainly clear glass) objects, by using special light effects which he has created by himself. The result is an colourful spectacle. And because any slight change in the lighting gives another effect, every photo is different. That’s why each edition is limited to 5 copies.

Walter van Zwaaij (born 1948) has always been interested in nature and art from a very early age. As toddler he used to draw the birds playing around his parent's garden. In his teens he started taking photographs and later also his own darkroom developments and prints. First in black and white and after that also in color. During the eighties he came in contact with glass art. He started by designing and creating Tiffany style lighting and glass panels (copper foil techniques). From there to designing and manufacturing stained glass windows was but one small step away. His fascination for art in glass never ceased, that is why he continued to fabricate glass sculptures by fusing. his glass art products have been exported to America,Japan, France, Austria and other countries. However, he could not get away from the passion of photography. This goes together with a natural talent for art and design. His macro photographs of flora and fauna display his fine eye for detail. To literally widen his horizon he has applied himself to taking panoramic pictures. his latest artistic expression in photography is called "What's Light" During recent years his many art manifestations have been exhibited several times. In this respect one may safely say that this is quite remarkable that for all this he has never had any training or schooling whatsoever. So in all his versatility, he still remains a pure autodidactic person.
