Melting Photograph - Limited Edition of 10

I use the cyanotype medium to capture the beauty and fragility of sea ice and glaciers. The stunning beauty and majesty of these frozen landscapes are unparalleled, but the harsh reality of their disappearance serves as a warning of the devastating effects of global warming. This artwork was created as an intermediate step in the cyanotype process. After washing, during oxidation, the colors change and move towards Prussian blue. This transformation is the result of chemical reactions that occur when the cyanotype solution interacts with light and water. During the washing process, the artwork undergoes a transformation. As the chemicals are washed away, the colors begin to shift and change. Over time, the blue color becomes deeper and more intense, eventually settling into a rich Prussian blue. The artwork created by this process are a testimony to the power of chemical reactions and the beauty of the natural world. It serves as a reminder that even the most mundane processes can produce astonishing and unexpected results, and that sometimes the journey is just as important as the destination.
