ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"Memories about Aurora Lights": an art photograph of dewdrops on the grass blades by Sweden-based art photographer Inna Etuvgi.  The fine art print transports viewers to the mesmerizing dance of the Aurora Borealis through delicate dewdrops on grass.  Inspired by childhood memories in Chukotka's arctic landscapes, this piece narrates a celestial love story between the Sun and Earth: "Somewhere far in the center of the universe, an igloo stands. The Sun lives in this igloo. Every morning, the sun departs from its home to meet its beloved Earth. It extends its arm-rays to embrace its loved one, who is alone and sad, staring at its shadow.

And when these rays reach the Earth, we see the Northern Lights.

This is the endless love story of the Sun and Earth"

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Inna Etuvgi, hailing from Russia's Arctic shores, brings her technical background to light as a Swedish art photographer. Her artistic journey began in 2020, and in 2022, she gained recognition as a finalist in the Arte Laguna Prize 16. In 2023, she received an honor from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee. Etuvgi’s works are featured in the “Photography in the Visual Culture” 22/23 book. Navigating life with Aphantasia, Inna's mind doesn't visualize, but it pulsates with vivid concepts, emotions, and sensations. She uses her camera not merely to explore the world but to externalize her unique mental landscapes, making them visible.  Art critic Tabish Khan says about Inna’s art: “her work is about transporting us to other worlds—both real and imaginary—but always in harmony with nature...she has eyes and a camera that capture the beauty in the worlds that the rest of us often overlook and take for granted.”

My work is a response to the delicate balance of life that I learned to respect growing up in the Arctic, where survival depends on the smallest signs of nature. Through macro photography, I magnify the hidden beauty of mosses, lichens, and dewdrops—overlooked organisms that play an essential role in maintaining ecosystems—challenging the human-centered worldview. With Aphantasia, my inability to visualize images internally, nature becomes my external mirror, reflecting my inner landscapes, coloured with emotions and sensations. This intimate dialogue with nature drives my creative process. By incorporating AI and generative digital art, I extend this exploration, blending the organic with the technological, to examine how humans fit into both natural and social systems. Ultimately, my art serves as a reminder of the fragile interconnectedness of all life. As we push forward into an increasingly technology-driven future, my work encourages viewers to pause, reconsider their place in the world, and embrace a more mindful and compassionate relationship with nature.
