About The Artwork

Photograph of a lagoon in the moorland of chingaza, colombia. Place of many births of water and life. Rain time period.Photography: Color, Black & White, Lights, Paper on Paper, Other. (Binnacle) Harold Rodríguez S. The photographic work developed in terms of its structure and content, as a whole, is the result of an evaluation of the landscape as an element that forms an intrinsic part of a vision that interprets reality through the lens of various modes and atmospheres that define a Specific light, beyond a simple formal record. It is the light and the atmosphere born of a vital force that happens in tonal values that surround the landscape of the páramo (mountainous ecosystem typical of Colombia between 2700 and 5000 mnsm), I choose this ecosystem because it allows a demanding photographic approach that requires a process of observation multiple; A premeditation in the choice of photographic scenes, direct photographs and atmospheric photographs, but also demand a deep meditation on the natural elements that inevitably exist and leave free field to a conceptual proposal apparently testimonial, but go further, because it generates a vestige and Visceral photographic act in the most purist way and on the other hand it is an eventual testimony of the imminent presence of man. With the elaboration of a photographic journal as a starting point and making a visual record of the time in the landscape and more explicitly with the páramo, the same landscape is interposed in a plastic way, but before putting a staging of the time with the Influence of the weather, of the elements left by man for his mining interventions in the past and with which a drastic change in the landscape of the páramo begins. To start this visual journey, I went to do an investigation in the mining exploitations that were realized during century XX in the páramo, place where I took the photographs, in the extraction mine of building materials. The record collects visual testimonies considering as a starting point the hand of man. The landscape approaches as a transmitter of Peace, because there are localized lagoons that were sacred to the indigenous peoples before the arrival of the European conquerors; and because in some places it was a strategic corridor for the guerrilla movements of the 20th century and today, in Colombia, a peace process is finally underway, precisely with one of the longest guerrillas in the world, the FARC. The atmospheric character of the páramo and of the image intervenes of a purely plastic way, as well as the historical testimonies left by the man in the landscape. Photographs are taken that have a more purist position regarding the photographic process in the taking, respecting the manifestations of the weather, the humidity, the value of the color that takes place during the course of the days depending on the rainy season or summer. The process will be a selection of photographic archives that propose a monochrome formulation, eventually or in color, to exert an appreciation of the essence of photography, the classic and the timeless, since in this way it will be more difficult to refer to a precise time of execution with the above, the same method of synchronization is transgressed as a record. Therefore the process itself is a proposal that undertakes aspects of methodical type, notes or records and the final edition of the photographic material goes beyond a simple epistolary record. Printed on Cotton paper. Prints are hand signed, numbered and come with a certificate of authenticity. www.haroldphotography.com.co
