This serie is about artisanal fishing boats of the Brazilian coast. The pictures show retired wooden boats over the sea they used to navigate. I consider this serie a small inventory about this form of art that will disappear soon, leaving no evidence. This craftwork is disappearing drastically, following the decline of small scale family fishing model. The secrets of ship building will also disappear, because the artisans are getting old and dying, without having anyone to teach the techniques of wood construction. And very often they don’t leave any printed technical plan. On this serie, the boats are positioned above the sea because they couldn’t float anyway. To me they should remain in this position, to remind people in the future, that fishermen bravely used to cross the coast on those wooden boats. Whatever the weather.
