ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Opus Pink was created to acknowledgement pre war artists Georgette Chen (Singapore )and Kathleen O'Connor (West Australian). This work was made to interrupt a space as a curtain opening at the beginning of a concert, or to the beginning of a play. Opus Pink creates its own in intimate space to enable viewers to imagine they were moving into another time in history, and be transported from the day-to-day function to another time when Paris was in its hey day and creative life was potent.

As a child I studied art under a local artist and drew. On completion of a TAFE Art course in Sale Victoria, I was selected to study at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne in 1985 and completed a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art. Along with friends I created an alternative art Night Club called the "Sod Club" in Fitzroy and St Kilda in Melbourne; and worked and exhibited for the Melbourne Fringe Arts Festival over a number of years. I worked part time and exhibited in alleyways, circus tents, and community/street festivals and in nightclubs (additionally creating short films, videos and volunteering for SKA TV). Over the past 7 - 10 years I have achieved 9 solo exhibitions and engaged extensively with the contemporary arts sector in Victoria and WA, entering works in numerous prizes, offering my work for selection to curators and exhibiting at commercial art galleries. You could say it has taken me 20 years to self-fund an art practice and develop my own visual language. I have created a number of revenue streams from commissions, sales at exhibitions and teaching to support myself without government funding. I have had artwork selected and exhibited internationally in Singapore a number of works have been collected by significant companies based in South Africa, Perth, Zurich and New York. My artwork is represented by Printmaker Gallery in Brunswick Street Fitzroy and at Brightspace Gallery StKilda Melbourne. My aim is to continue and to develop a high quality art practice. To have time to spend with my artwork and reflect on or whatever I may be making. In 2011 -12 I received a number of commissions, four paintings of the Pilbara for a company boardroom Atlas Iron and a print commission of Australian Bird Ashbia Loveness by the Ian Love family in Perth.
