About The Artwork

Orcadian Rhythm is a Gallery Wall Set of curated Limited Edition fine art prints (Edition of 100 for each print in the set) in black and white. A beautiful Orkney themed print set to create a feature gallery wall. Five prints, each print is signed, titled and numbered and is printed on exquisitely textured fine art paper. The paper I use for these prints is St Cuthbert's Mill Somerset Velvet. The Mill has been making paper for over 400 years and the result is a stunning textured paper with a slight creaminess to it and a lovely texture like watercolour paper. Each print has a white border with a deckled edge. Deckle edges are hand made edges to the paper which look like raw paper edges. You can see a video of deckle edged prints on my Instagram or Youtube channels @Skyebluegallery If you prefer to have prints with straight edges please just get in touch with me when purchasing. Deckle edged prints are usually float mounted in the frame so that they look as if they are floating above the surface of the backing board. These could be hung in a group as shown in some example images or they could be hung around a room to give a cohesive feel to the decor. I am also open to any suggested changes in size or switching the images for any of the other images in my portfolio. The set is available in three sizes, this listing is for the large set. The sizes refer to the final print size and including a 1 inch white border around the image which includes the signature, title of the print and the number in the edition. Prints included in this set are as follows starting from the top left and going right to left across the top then across the bottom. Orkney is a small archipelago of islands to the north of Scotland. Many people from the islands emigrated to the US and Canada hundreds of years ago. It is a place of history and culture, a harsh climate and hardy people. The Italian Chapel at Lambs Holm, built by Italian POWs during WW II (12 x 18 inches) The Path to the Sea at Houton (18 x 12 inches) Stones of Stenness (16 x 20 inches) Stromness Alley (16 x 20 inches) All that Remains, South Ronaldsay (11 x 14 inches) Wall Coverage Example Size Hung as shown with a three inch gap between the images these would cover approximately 60 wide by 50 inches. Please contact me before you purchase if you have any questions or if you wish to have changes made to the set as it stands.

As a professional photographer I travel often to the islands of northern Scotland to make my images in places that provoke a profound emotional reaction. The colours, the textures, the wildness of the places and the history are all intertwined in a fascinating, and often bewildering melting pot of sensation that forces me to make art. After moving many times to get to where I should be, I now live on top of a cliff at the northern end of the Isle of Skye. Skye is a large and very beautiful island in the far north of Scotland; a place of inspiration, myth and legend. The beauty of the landscape draws artists and walkers, photographers and lovers of Nature like a magnet, and I am likewise smitten. Skye has a ruggedness and intense green hills that would make anyone pick up a camera or a paintbrush. My work has moved through variations on a theme of movement and colour. Whether the camera moves or I move or the landscape moves it is all the same. Colours, moving blending and soaking into one another create a sense of playfulness, the feeling you get when the wind is in your hair on a bright sunny day. More and more I wonder if there is any end to how one can capture the colours, the lines and the essence of a place. In my studio today, the bright green Hill of the Red Fox is shrouded in a light mist, the wind is howling and the clouds are moving quickly across the hills. It is a scene that makes my heart sing. I hope my work conveys some of the joy I feel when I see these colours, the harmony and the wind singing through it all. It is at least a quest that, hopefully, will last a lifetime.
