Alan Ranger is an award winning photographer based in the Midlands, UK. He has developed his personal style after more than 15 years’ experience: through expression, perception and a deep understanding of creative intention. Disciplined yet inventive, his inimitable approach allows him to turn unremarkable moments in to extraordinary images, depicting the remarkable journey through life. Alan’s landscape photography work is not merely a snapshot of what we see; it mirrors how we feel. A glance at his landscape photography illustrates this concept - capturing the energy of the land and depicting the emotion of that specific moment in time. He says "I love the beauty of a landscape image, not because of what or where it is but because it reflects who we are and our individual connection to land, sea, sky and light." He uses the camera to express the excitement of life; this is not done through imitation, but by pulling together strands of creative thought and weaving them into masterful reflections of feeling and insight. Alan’s brand of vision and creativity, combined with proven technical knowledge, has led him to teaching the art of photography to others. He runs workshops, courses and one to one tuition for aspiring photographers of all levels. Students are coached in a simple, clear manner – inspiring each person to discover individual instincts. Pupils are not only instructed in the use of a camera, they are taught to challenge the popular myths and preconceptions of photography and break into new territory of artistic expression that reflects their own interpretation of subject and enviroment. Alan’s approach to “art” photography may not be unique for a professional practitioner but his encouragement and guidance to produce an image from within, rather than extract from the out has helped develop many aspiring amateur to express their interpretation of reality in their images. The influence of poetry and music has been vital to Alan’s work. His love of certain musical artists helps him to channel his perception of the world beyond the ordinary. His compositions can be likened to poetic verse, configuring the components of light, contrast and texture to create a clear narrative, while presenting a window into his soul.
