Ashley Childs prefers to communicate a sense of vulnerability, not only demonstrated in the form of tangible sculpture but also in writing, photography and other media. Inspired by new materials, people and places discovered around the globe, Ashley's talent for observational detail and her brave methodology strengthen her artistic endurance. As a San Diego native, Ashley Childs’ sculptural labor displays a similar influence of the environment prevalent with the surf, movement and texture of Southern California’s coastlines. Rooted in the provocative expressions of time and space, Ashley Childs’ work strives to exude an uninhibited sense of transformation. Ashley Childs has been featured in a number of group shows across the country featuring her chain work and casting process. Her work embodies a kinesthetic process resulting in tangible evidence which encompass her personal opus. Currently, her studio work takes on light metal casting in gold, silver and bronze. These kinetic sculptural forms emphasize a sensual, sculptural look, exuding both strength and delicacy in their composition. Ashley Childs received her BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, studied jewelry at Alan Revere’s Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco, blacksmithing at Penland School of Craft and was mentored by Ellie Thompson (Spectrum Award Winner).
