Red Light District, from the series "Losing my Religion", is a search to personify or embody that devotion that is put to the test on a daily basis when going through extreme experiences that unsettle and break our faith. An important reference is "Losing my Religion", a song by R.E.M from 1991, that left an impression on me at the time. The phrase "losing my religion" is an expression from the southern region of the United States that means "losing one's temper or civility" or "feeling frustrated and desperate." According to Michael Stipe, the song was about romantic expression, an unrequited love; however, the music video is filled with religious imagery. I find this contrast of concepts and images fascinating, so I made the effort to represent everyday complexities by establishing analogies with religious iconography. Salvation appears as an unattainable goal, just like that dedicated but exhausting eternal love that does not end up being reciprocated or that fervent prayer that is not heard. Dust we are and to dust we shall return. We are eternal beings living in bodies of clay.

Carlos Henaine was born in 1971 in Puebla, Mexico, and holds a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the Universidad de las Américas, Puebla. In its early days, the studio focused on multimedia design and web development. From the year 2002 onwards, he decided to expand the studio's activities to meet the demands of visual communication, including corporate identity, editorial design, packaging, and environmental design. In 2008 and 2011, he was honored with the Quórum Award and has won a silver mention, three bronze mentions and a total of ten finalist works in that contest. In 2009, the INBA awarded him an honorary mention in the Fifth National Design Biennial. Between 2007 and 2015, he won seven first places in the a! Diseño Awards. In 2016, he received an honorary mention in the first edition of the Diseña México Award. To date, his work has been published in nine books by HOW and Rockport Publishers, internationally recognized authorities in the field of graphic design. As a specialist in visual communication, he currently explores different paths in the expression of visual arts, using photography as a medium to create art. He portrays human reality through the rawest and most authentic emotions, capturing the interplay of darkness and light in people. As an emerging artist, he has participated in several group exhibitions and presented his first solo exhibition in 2023 at a renowned art gallery in his hometown.
