Fiona Buttigieg, born in 1974, is a British artist with Maltese roots, who currently lives on the island of Elba in Tuscany, Italy. Her work is inspired by the sea that surrounds her: the Mediterranean and the past and present cultures that surround it. Her passion for photography began in 1989 in England and in 2002 was awarded a scholarship at Georgia State University in the USA where she studied towards a Masters degree in Fine Art. Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries in the USA including MOMUS in Atlanta (2004), SALON K in Stuttgart Germany (2006), and FOTOGRAFIA EUROPEA Reggio Emilia Italy (2007-8). In 2003 she was featured in the documentary film "LA VISION" by Colombian film director Roberto Arevalo. The series "Boys will be Boys" was the subject of the Canadian TV show "SEX TV". Currently she is President of the photography collective IPOTESI, Officina Fotografica Elbana where she teaches photography and curates the contemporary photography gallery SPAZIO IPOTESI, in Capoliveri.
