ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Aerial photograph taken above Shark Bay World Heritage area in Western Australia. Taken from a light plane at an altitude of approximately 2500 feet. I have found shooting at this height to be the ideal altitude. It is high enough to begin abstracting the landscape but not so high as to begin to lose important detail. This is part of a series of aerial photographs from the Shark Bay region which is renowned for it's amazing landscapes and wildlife. My vision was to use the elements of colour, pattern, shape, texture and light to create images of great depth and ambiguity. It was taken with the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV camera to produce images of the highest quality and is printed on Ilford Archival Prestige Smooth Cotton Rag 310gsm for superb colour reproduction. This photograph is sold in a limited edition of 50 prints and your print will be signed, titled and numbered by me. It will also come with a Saatchi certificate of authenticity.

Photography has been one of the main constants throughout my life and landscape photography has been the main creative driving force. It has always been a perfect synthesis between my love of photography and my love of the Australian landscape; in particular, the rugged northern regions of Western Australia. In my late teens and early twenties I worked extensively throughout the Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne and Murchison regions of Western Australia as a field assistant for mineral exploration companies. This made it possible for me to see and experience many amazing places that I would not normally have had the opportunity to visit. I worked as a professional photographer during the 1980's and 1990's in Melbourne and Perth. During that time I achieved a Master of the A.I.P.P (Australian Institute of Professional Photography certification. In 1996 I won the AIPP Landscape Photographer of the Year Award in Western Australia. Throughout my adult life I have made many solo journeys into these regions to explore and photograph their unique and amazing beauty. Then quite recently, when I first had the opportunity to try aerial photography for myself, it was like being struck by lightning (figuratively speaking of course). I immediately knew this was the style of photography I was meant to do. It suited my aesthetic approach perfectly with the use of color, pattern, shape, texture and light to create images of great depth and ambiguity. I have since had the opportunity to take aerial photographs over Shark Bay World Heritage Region in Western Australia, the Southern coastal region of the Kimberley in Western Australia and around the Yeppoon region in Northern Queensland.
