Unframed archival pigment print printed on archival paper with half inch border, signed and numbered on the front by the artist, and included with a certificate of authenticity. Larger sizes and framing are available on request. In the late Seventies I began photographing the snow covered valleys of the High Sierras in California and Nevada, trekking in for weeks on end, lugging a large format camera, food, and the necessary gear to survive Winters in the mountains. The valleys had a unique stillness to them, and the snow blanketing them offered unusual patterns of light and shadow, mingled with trees and creeks. On some days fog so thick would appear that it was hard to see your feet, while other days would bring snowfall or bright sunshine. The prints I first made from my travels had a quiet majesty to them, rich with a serene beauty. Recently, I decided to have the negatives scanned and proceeded to make a new series of prints. I was stunned by the amount of additional detail the scans revealed that was missed in the previous conventional printing. What you see here are the results of the new prints from the scans.

Images that arouse the mind, transform the ordinary, make one wonder, make one think. Uncommon beauty in the common world. This is what I look for in the interplay of light, shadow, and shape. And, it is what I strive to create in a photograph. I owe a debt of gratitude to those who have trusted me to photograph their creations and treasures, and for the paths their projects have helped me to find. For me, photography is an ongoing process of learning and creation, a process that never ends. Colin McRae began as a photographer of musicians for music labels and publications, later moving on to serve as the photographer for the Art Museum of the University of California at Berkeley, and eventually enjoying a long career as a freelance photographer. Currently, his work is devoted to aerial, landscape, and architectural photography with exhibits featuring his aerial and landscape work. His photographs have appeared in numerous books on art and architecture, both in the United States and abroad.
